Learning history on Rajgad !

Welcome to the New Year!
Learning history on Rajgad!

While learning history about Shivaji Maharaj, one student asked, "How the fort exactly look like?". Others tried answering. And then followed flurry of questions like how they might have built, fought at that height, logistics etc. and many. Then this idea - why not learn history by visiting a fort itself? Why imagine when we can be there on the king of all forts? Thus started the unique learning experience of 5th std students - A visit to "Kille Rajgad"! thumb-icon

Once there early morning, whole day was spent in climbing the stiff mountain, seeing various lakes, monuments, experiencing cold wind in the famous nath - a natural ring in the mountain cliff and the most unforgettable climb of Bale killa.

It is these kids that kept driving us,and we just followed their wish. Honestly, I didn't expect that they would be so enthusiastic to explore the remote parts of Rajgad too, after the arduous climb! Balle killa We were expecting that only a few of the sporty ones would attempt, but not only did almost everyone climb it, but they did it so joyfully, and were eager to go to Suvela machi too after that!!

Let me take this opportunity to express some of what we have learnt from this experience.

Most of the time, we grossly underestimate the capacity of the kids, both physical and mental. And these adventure activities are good physically of course, but more so, to build their mental muscle, in developing their manomaya kosha.

Tolerating pain, having patience, learning balance, stretching their capacity, along with gaining so many values and lessons from history.. all this is building mental strength.

And at this age, they are at the manomaya kosha level, which gives us a few short years to make mentally and emotionally strong young adults. And that is much more necessary In today's world than simply making scholars who cannot function properly in society or do their duties due to mental weaknesses.

So, we will keep having such trips, whether with their teachers or without. Please carry on pray-icon
